A few years ago, a friend of mine from college introduced me to this presentation and I thought it was beyond powerful. I was speechless to say the least, just a tornado of indescribable emotions. These acts of police terrorism and street executions that have taken the lives of a countless number of blacks in America made me think of this lecture all over again. If you have a moment watch for yourself.
We finally made it onto iTunes. Â Now you can check out all current and past episodes in one place. Â I tried to post the link here but I’m not sure it works. Â Anyway, make sure you subscribe and share the podcasts with your friends.

Watching the BET Awards this past weekend got me thinking about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and other vessels for which people of color seek to be equally recognized for their artistic, creative and unique displays of visual and performance art whether it is in the form of music, film, theater or so forth. It made me wonder why the award shows that are for us and by us don’t seem to be promoted or supported by the culture for which these black award shows are intended. Drops in viewership contribute to whether or not these award shows stay on air. Winning artists nor nominated artists show up for these awards in some cases but they’re the same ones boycotting the Oscars and other mainstream award shows. I understand that at the end of the day winning a Golden Globe or an Academy award or a Tony award adds more to your portfolio than just another page… it adds some extra 00’s, nonetheless let’s not forget about our own platforms. Having said all that. Here are a few award shows that you should look forward to next year. Let’s do our part to prove that black award shows are still important, that they are needed and appreciated.

There are probably more but I can’t think of them right now. You can always tweet us or e-mail us if you wanna add your two cents.
